Board Meeting
October 29, 2012
Members Present: Jill Smith, Greg Warner, Karrie Geroux, Carolyn Tommeraas, Sally Arrindell, Terry and Rita Russell, and Maggie Brimijoin. Guests: Maddy Hammerlund, Nick Baker and Valinda Wondrasch.
Greg Warner opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Minutes were approved as read.
The UMR Dance Team representatives Maddy and Nick presented a proposal for a Dollar Dance to raise money for their expenses in entering the Star of the North Competition in the Twin Cities in March. They will have 15 second year dancers available to dance with people. In addition, they would like to have a bake sale the same night. The board suggested using a table near the entrance for ticket sales. Then when people wished to dance with the students they presented a ticket. The students requested a play list so people would know which dances to sign up for. The board voted to have the Dollar Dance at the December Dance in order to support the Dance Team. In addition, we will rebate the students entry fees as our contribution. The board requested that the UMR Dance Team select one of its members to make an announcement about the Dollar Dance at the November Dance.
Treasurer’s Report: The beginning balance was $7,074.15.
Admissions to the October Dance totaled $537.00. Expenses totaled -$115.56 for refreshments, admissions table, etc. (Rent for the SeniorCenter is paid quarterly) There are outstanding checks (-$130.00) and the cash box ($200.00) for a total $7,731.15 on October 15, 2012. Attendance: Thirty-four members, 21 non-members, 21 students and 8 free admissions for a total of 79. The Board approved buying flowers ($40.00) for the Open House on October 30th at DahlDanceCenter’s new location.
Annual Meeting: The Board approved moving the Annual Meeting to the November Free Dance. During that dance, Greg will explain that the organization is run by volunteers and that we need people to run for the 4 vacant board positions and sign up to help. Jill Smith volunteered to coordinate instructors for the dances. Maggie signed up to work with Paula Boos on the flyer announcing the dance dates for 2013.
Greg will thank the board members who are leaving (Carolyn, Sally Arrendell, Eliza Mitchell and Maggie). The election will be at the December Dance. He will also explain the budget. It costs $400.00 to open the doors for a dance. USA Dance requires a year’s expenses to be held in reserve. We need to purchase music and musical equipment.
A question was raised about the number of performances at dances.
The Board decided to limit performances to one per studio in order to spread out the opportunities to perform. The board discussed stored items and tabled it until next time.
