Board Meeting
November 30, 2011
Members present: Greg Warner, Jill Smith, Terry Russell, Rita Russell, Sally Arrindell, Eliza Mitchell, Maggie Brimijoin. Guests: Paula Boos
The meeting was opened at 7:05 by Greg Warner. The Minutes were approved with the following corrections: 1. Brenda declined the invitation to teach at the December dance so the lesson will be meringue by Limor Raz from Blue Moon Ballroom. 2. Blue Moon’s performance at the December dance will be by John Cruz and Heather Engh. 3. $45 for printing included the printing of handouts describing membership perks and benefits, yellow printed monthly announcements as well as pink Join the Journey flyers.
Treasurer’s Report: We began the month with $7,941.23. Admissions to the November dance was $366.00 (members got in free that night) and we have three new members and two renewing members for a total of $491.00 in revenues. There were 50 members at the dance and 43 nonmembers (regular and student). Expenses for the dance and national membership fees totaled $515.67. There are two major expenses coming up: the fourth quarter payment to the Senior Center and the second half of the ASCAP license fee. We ended the month with $7,7991.56 including money in the cash box.
Music: Music Chair Brenda Sonnenberg and Paula had a committee meeting to discuss how to handle music for DJ’s and demos. Karrie Geroux will download the music and Paula and Brenda will edit and put it on traveling disks for dances. The committee would like to receive suggestions for new music so that our collection can be a mix of old and new. Nationals is still working on an agreement with ASCAP to cover all local chapters; however, their funds are going down and they are trying to provide local chapters with a template for a website.
December Dance: We will have the annual meeting at the dance but since there will be no election of officers, it will be very short. Carrie Tommeraas will fill in for Greg Warner. Margot Potts from Join the Journey will talk about her organization. All of the proceeds from admissions minus expenses will be donated to Join the Journey (minimum contribution will be $250.00) plus any donations from dancers and the proceeds from the silent auction on baskets.
January Dance: Jeremy Anderson has asked that members of UMN Dance Team raise money by having $1.00 dances that night. We approved it plus all student admissions will be turned over to the group that night.
February Dance: We will be decorating on Friday, February 10th from 11-1. The Valentine’s Dance will be Saturday, February 11th. Karrie Geroux and Rita Russell will co-chair.
March Dance: The board will invite Joe Heer to sing for that dance.
April Tea Dance for Students will be Sunday, April 22nd from 2-5 in the afternoon. We plan to invite the UMN (Rochester and TC). Fred Astaire Dance Studio will invite St. Mary’s and we will also contact the North Iowa University team. We will encourage high school students to attend also.
Demos and Community Service: On Tuesday, December 6th, we will perform for the Salvation Army Caring Partners Program from 12:30 to 1:30. Our performance on The Eagles Cancer Telethon is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on January 15th. We have also given a check in years past.
Star of the North dance competition will be held on February 25th and 26th.
