Dave
Wells, President
I believe everyone can have fun ballroom dancing. I grew up as a
very uncoordinated kid who was close to the last kid chosen when
sides were picked for games. I'm still a slow learner when it comes
to doing something that requires coordination. But here I am president
of the USA dance club and having fun dancing several times a week.
If I can do it, any one can learn to dance. Also I don't say "no"
when asked to dance, so ladies don't be shy. I also enjoy helping
beginners enjoy this fun activity. I've been involved in the local
club almost as long as it has been in Rochester and have been coordinating
our club dance classes through Community Education for many years.
I also enjoy watching "Dancing with the Stars". Not because
of how good they get, but for coverage of the star's lessons throughout
the week. If you've taken lessons, you can really relate to what
they are going through. So far the winners have always been folks
that enjoyed dancing and folks you wouldn't expect to win like a
football player and a race car driver. The show does a good job
showing how much fun dancing can be, and also shows that it take
a lot of work to be good. So get out there folks and Dance!

Jeremy
Anderson, 1st Vice President
Though I've had some dance lessons here and there since 1992, I consider
the time I started taking lessons from April Dahl to be when I really
started learning to dance! Before, then, I remember watching her and
others move around the floor and wishing I could dance like that! Four
years later, and here I am. While I've been dancing East Coast Swing
the longest, my current favorites are Bolero and West Coast Swing. Though
still, there's nothing quite like swing dancing to live rockabilly!
The First Vice President position is mostly a voice and vote on the
Board. With the additional responsibility of filling in for the President
whenever required. |

| Carol Dose, Secretary
As secretary,
I attend board meetings, participate in decision-making for the chapter
and take minutes, which I distribute to the other board members for
their approval. I also provide copies of the minutes to all who attend
the following meeting. I’ve been serving as your secretary since
January of 2007.
I’ve been dancing
in one form or another as long as I can remember. As a child I would
dance on the hardwood floor of our dining room. One of my first memories
of learning an organized dance was my cousin Pat teaching us the Schottische
in my grandparents’ front yard. I’ve also done square
dancing and I love Scottish country dancing. Labor Day weekend of
2005 I finally got to try ballroom dancing. My favorite dance is the
waltz. |
Heather
Voigt , Treasurer
The treasurer position is responsible for all expenses going out
of the club and collecting and depositing all cash inflow. I am
in charge of the cash box and checkbook for the club. I also compile
a monthly treasurer's report for the board meetings.
I have been dancing seriously
since my junior year of college but have enjoyed it for as long
as I can remember. My true start in dancing was in East Coast Swing
and Lindy Hop. The college I attended had a Swing Dance Club, and
after the first time I saw them perform I just knew I had to learn
how to do that! I was a member of that club for the next two years,
and we learned lots and did several performances. We even attended
Swing Camp Catalina for their four-day convention in 2001. After
I moved to Rochester I started taking Salsa classes, and from there
I expanded into general ballroom dance. I am always trying to learn
new ballroom dances and steps! |

Leadership/Volunteer
Opportunities
Leadership is important to any organization. With strong leadership,
we can envision and implement new ideas and a direction can be determined
and followed. Everyone benefits from a strong leadership contingent.
Our leaders are passionate about dancing and with sharing their experiences
with others.
Leadership
positions are strictly voluntary and anyone within the membership
can run for office. Elections are held annually at one of the
last monthly meetings of the year, typically November or December.
If you are interested in running for a position, please contact one
of the current leaders so your name can get on the ballot.
